Move Over Optimus Prime, "Voltron" Is Coming

VoltronYet another '80s cartoon is set to hit the big screen -- "Voltron." And I'll form ... the head!

New Regency is working with the Mark Gordon Co. to turn "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" into a live-action film. That formula worked out pretty well already this year -- "Transformers" anyone?

The studio also has "Alvin and the Chipmunks" scheduled for a December release -- and the writer of "Voltron," Justin Marks, penned the script for "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe."

As much as we'd love to rip these people and throw in a line like, "Doesn't anyone in Hollywood have an original idea anymore?" -- it's freakin' "Voltron," man!

Live-action? Who's going to play Keith, Princess "Allura", SVEN, Pidge, Lance, Hunk, King Alfor, the evil king Zarkon, Prince Lothar and the ugly witch Haggar.

Just make sure you see the previews for this one. This one will be DOA.

17. There are perfectly good reasons TMZ provides free promos for lame 'celebrities,' horrifyingly bad films and unwatchable television shows. Their parent company holds an interest in these things, and they make money. It's all symbiotic.

I was hoping TMZ would seek a comment from the Hogans this weekend. The guy who executed three nice college kids in Newark was arrested wearing a 'HULKAMANIA!' T-shirt and the photos of him doing the perp walk in that shirt were all over the NY papers.

18. I just happen to have in my possession 2 full cases "EACH" of the original action figures of VT and OP. 12 figures per case. Do the math......24VT 24OP. Oh yeah! Let's just say these fell off a truck a couple of decades ago and I just remembered that I stuck them in my shed out back after wrapping these unopened cases in water tight plastic sheeting to keep out the elements. How lucky for me that I remembered them. The auction is now open. What am I bid?

19. As soon as the Transformers movie made money, I KNEW Voltron would be on the way to the cineplexes ASAP. And if Voltron makes money at the box office, Gigantor will be the next giant robot to hit the screens.
You can trust Hollywood to make "new" movies out of old TV and comic books so they themselves don't have to be creative,( The Fantastic Four) then change things from the shows or comics in an attempt to put a "fresh spin" on them ( Dr. Doom fires electricty bolts as his only power. WTF?!) show no sense in picking how to film them ( a live action Underdog? WTF?!) and find a theme and run it into the ground.

20. Roro: I specifically did not mention Underdog cuz I am embarrassed that theymade it LMAO. When will they learn, besides Roger Rabit, that real and cartoon characers in the sae movie just desn't work.
I am interested to know if the Chippettes will be in the movie. LMAO I'd do see it then! Does anyone know if its all animaed or if they ill ruin that too? As much as all the 80s babies (78 right here!) love Alvin, when I listen to them now I get a headache. See what happens when you grow up?

21. Stephanie, the reason most people think the Hulk movie sucked is because out of a nearly 3 hour movie, the actual Hulk was only on the screen for about 30 non-consecutive mins and the rest of the movie was about Bruce Banner's screwed up relationships with his abusive dad, his sweetheart and her hard ass military man father.
I wanted to see the Hulk run amonk, not see Bruce Banner wallow in his angst..

25. Alvin IN the Chipmunks? Gross

Posted at 5:16PM on Aug 12th 2007 by Jud

26. Jenn,

A movie voltron will be so sick...so sick I'll want to throw up. How are they going to make spinning laser discs, the blazing sword, and all of that high tech morphing Voltron did/does to fight evil?

Paying to watch people butcher my childhood memories isn't fun. I guess that means GIJoe is next.

About the Hulk, CGI was expensive and the skills were hard to find. Hulk 2 will be better.
