Celebrity Justice
Prosecutor's Wife and Paris Have Something in Common

Rocky Delgadillo, Paris HiltonIn the ultimate of ironies, turns out the wife of Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo -- the man who wanted more jail time for Paris Hilton -- was popped for driving with a suspended license.

The incident occurred in 2005, according to the Los Angeles Times. Michelle Delgadillo's punishment -- a $186 fine.

Delgadillo said through a spokesman the two incidents are not comparable. "Paris Hilton, when driving with a suspended license, was on probation for a DUI-reckless driving charge," the Delgadillo spokesman said. Michelle Delgadillo was not on probation when cops stopped her for an illegal turn and found out her license had been suspended -- a year earlier, she was in an accident and could not show proof of insurance.

BTW, the City Attorney's office did not handle his wife's case.

So is it better to be an heiress or an City Attorney's wife? You decide.

61. Now I know what they mean by a lynch mob mentality.

62. I'm not pro anyone or anti anyone. I just think that Paris should shut up and do her time. She was sentenced by a judge and that sentence should be carried out. This is how our judicial system works. Her team should have appealed this decision when the sentence was originally handed down if they thought it was unfair. Why didn't they? Probably because they thought they could use their money to circumvent the system.

Maybe this judge decided to give Paris this sentence because he realized that any of the other options would NOT teach her a lesson and would NOT get her attention. She obviously didn't get the message previously because she violated her probation more than once. If someone is rich, sentencing them to be confined to their mansion is not going to teach them anything. Fining them is not going to put a dent in their wallet and will not teach them anything. But what would make them take notice? Putting them in jail. Not paid jail, but REAL jail. Maybe that was his purpose to imposing this sentence. After all, isn't that the purpose of imposing a sentence on someone? Aren't we trying to deter people from repeating their offenses? If she got another slap on the wrist, she would have been out there driving around recklessly again and maybe the next time she would have killed someone. Maybe now she will have learned a lesson and will THINK before she gets behind the wheel drunk or before she drives on a suspended license and maybe she will actually go to her court mandated classes because she'll be scared of going back to jail. To me, THAT is how the system is SUPPOSED to work.

63. I spent 2370 days in Prison, 255 days in San Diego County Jail, 45 days in San Bernardino County, 90 days in Orange County, and I can't remember how many in L.A. County Jail, and Paris Hilton is sniveling about 20 or so days. Quit wining and do your time like the rest of us!

64. This is directed at the person 24. Let's play comparison. Driving drunk or driving without proof of insurance? tThat is the question. I am pretty sure driving drunk and getting pulled over twice for suspended license is a lot worse than driving without proof of insurance. You sound so stupid when you are trying to come across and intelligent. Just more proof that paris hilton cronies will try to find anything to warrent why their idol should not be put in jail. There was no special treament in his wife's case. Also it depends what state you are in. Some states suspend your license if you are driving and get in an accident and you don't have proof of insurance and some states don't. I am sure if his wife was driving on a suspend license because of a DUI conviction don't you think all of these so-called intelligent media people would have jumped on that? It is all public record and anyone can look it up. Stop trying to find something that is not there. This is a pro-paris hilton website. They always kiss her assssssssssss and will continue to do so as long as they can.

65. Paris got no more than what she deserved. In California, if you violate your probation, you can be sent to jail (or prison if it's a felony) for up to the maximum for the offense. Here, a first time DUI is punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1000. She already got a big break when her case was plea-bargained down to an alcohol-related recless driving, and had a drivers license suspension as part of the deal. After violating her probation TWICE by driving on a suspended license, she got another big break by not having two new counts of driving on a suspendedlicense filed against her (each punishable by six months county jail and/or $1000). Instead the City Attorney chose merely to seek a probation violation on her original DUI/Wet Reclkless case. The judge only gave her 45 days, when he could have given her up to 180 days. Also under California law, jail inmate get two days time off for every four days served, so the maximum she would have served is 30 days. In Los Angeles County, however, becaue of jail overcapacity, the federal court has mandated population caps that cvurrently cause inmates to serve about 75 percent of the actual time they have to serve. 75 percent of 30 is 22.5, or 23 days. THAT is how the semtence of 23 days on 45 is computed. Don't worry, the taxpayers support making petty criminals like Miss Paris Whitney Hilton serve their sentences and no murders get let out becasue she is occupying a cell, mainly because murderers are kept in PRISON, not jail.

66. So what...society still gets to breathe without the skank..so the attorney did millions a favor...

67. This is a circus and it is serious. These politicians and law enforcers are creating a sensation because they enjoy their own notoriety. The press has created a false atmosphere to create news where there is none. No one hates Paris, they have their own problems. I am a 65 yr old grandmother and I have nothing in common with Paris Hilton except that I am her fellow human being and I would htell any one that can, to cast the first stone. This girl is being punished for being a celebrity. I am praying for Paris, she is in danger and does not deserve to be treated like this. What are you all thinking? You would all panic at the thought of going to the county jail where every pervert in the world is staying. The judge that is doing this to her is self seeking and rediculous. I hope that he gets the come uppance that he deserves. His church may applaud him but no one else does. The sheriff had it right and stood up to the powers that be and did the right thing. I heard one commentator say that he just wanted political favors from the Hiltons but actually he had the courage to do what was rght even though he is an office holder.

68. I am not a fan of paris Hilton's BUT I think she is beingoverly punished. her fame got her off too many times inthis case and her fame has now made her take a sentence that is overboard . 23 days seemed right. NOW, Michelle D., Dis.Atty's wife, we was set free with awrist slap. INTERESTING. All of this is going to play into Paris's favor after her release when she is going to be more famous and captialize off of this case.

69. These two are not comparable. One didn't know her license was suspended, and took care of it immediately. The other (ParASS) knew and didn't care about the law, thinking she is above it. Screw ParASS, oh wait, everyone who wanted to, already did.

70. The City Attorney's wife driving around with a suspended license for A
YEAR is OUTRAGEOUS! Driving with a suspended license is illegal,
and making improper turns is also illegal. In light of this
startling revelation, I think Delgadillo had a lot of nerve to go
rabid after Paris Hilton, when his own house wasn't in order!

71. SymKat...one of us is reading the story incorrectly. You might want to read that again.

72. You're comparing apples & oranges ... driving on a license suspended for no proof of insurance once is not a jailable infraction, and doesn't endanger anyone. Driving while intoxicated DOES endanger people, then having your license suspended for said DUI, driving regardless and being caught & ticketed SEVERAL times is just plain idiotic, and shows a total lack respect and common decency for the laws of our country.

73. 78. Paris does NOT deserve any of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted at 10:19PM on Jun 9th 2007 by susan
~~~
Stupid Susan, ParASS deserves all of this and more. I suggest the next time she's drunk we put her in a parking lot with nothing but concrete walls and let her floor the gas. My hope for her is she hits a pole, not a person.
ParASS is a whore and nothing else.
The DRUNK DRIVER can run over you Susan as you prove yourself worthless, but the rest of us want to be safe. Put your kid in her path. No loss there.
74. I FIND THIS STORY VERY SUSPICIOUSLY PRO-PARIS, HARVEY. DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD OF PARIS-SYMPATHETIC NEWS ON TMZ . The Hiltons have somehow "gotten to" Harvey Levin, and all of his comments on TV and on stories on this site have been heavily slanted to favor her and try to make her look better and more sympathetic. IT IS PURE PROPOGANDA. The rest of America still sees her for what she is: an arrogant, amoral, self-absorbed, empty-headed, bigoted, racist trust fund baby who has never accomplished anything in her life except be born a Hilton.
DESPITE HAVING HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS, I'VE NEVER HEARD OF HER USING ANY OF HER UNDESERVED FAME FOR ANY CHARITY. And I think we all know she did not write that so called Press Release or make the decision not to appeal. It was made by her publicists/handlers to garner sympathy and make more money for her.
DO NOT BELIEVE THE LIES THAT HER PRESS MACHINE IS NOW PUTTING OUT, now including TMZ.
75. The judge, the Hon. Michael Sauer, did not do anything to Paris Hilton. She did it to herself. Lots of people are applauding what he did by undoing Baca's illegal actions. An LA Times poll this morning found that 90 percent of those polled (more than 14,000 people) approved of sending Paris back to jail while only 6 percent did not. Let's get real here. Paris was properly punished for driving on a suspended license, not because she was a "celebrity" so called.
