Lets Get This Party Started
Imus Slammed by Rutgers Players -- "Why Us?"

Don Imus got an earful from the Rutgers student-athletes he labeled "nappy-headed hos" last night, as he met with them at the New Jersey governor's mansion, for the first time since he made the racist slur that cost him his jobs at MSNBC and, yesterday, CBS Radio. Adding injury to the insult debacle, N.J. Governor Jon S. Corzine was seriously injured in a car wreck on his way to the meeting.

According to Deirdre Imus, Don's wife, who was filling in for him this morning on WFAN, the shock-jock heard from each player on the Rutgers women's basketball team, their coach, some of their parents, and university administrators during the three-hour meeting at the New Jersey governor's mansion. The common refrain from all the players was, according to the New York Daily News, "Why us?"

Deirdre Imus pleaded with listeners to stop sending hate mail to the Rutgers team members – and invited them to send the hate to her husband instead.

J.Lo – Speaking in Scientology?

Jennifer Lopez may have let slip a little Scientology-speak during her appearance on "American Idol," leading people to wonder if she's more involved in the Church than she's letting on.

J.Lo responded to a question from Ryan Seacrest about Simon Cowell's acid tongue by saying she believed that "concentrating on the rightness brings more rightness." According to Rush & Molloy, "rightness" is a central tenet in the L. Ron Hubbard lexicon, and it's no wonder that Lopez has it on the tip of her tongue: Her dad, David Lopez, has been a Scientologist for 20 years, and one of her best friends, actress Leah Remini, is an avowed Church member as well. Still, Lopez has repeatedly denied being involved herself.

Courtney – Oprah's My Thin-spiration

Courtney Love is insisting that she hasn't had gastric-band surgery, as some are whispering, given her newly toned physique – and she's crediting Oprah Winfrey for her weight loss. "I couldn't get that surgery if I begged for it. I got my inspiration from Oprah losing so much weight on Slim-Fast," says Love on her website, as Rush & Molloy point out. Courtney's been spotted in the last couple weeks wearing tiny bikinis and sporting a very flat stomach, leading to all kinds of speculation as to how she dropped the pounds.

Party Favors: Britney Always Looks Good in Those Boots ... Gwen Stefani Says She's "Always" Dieting ... No Leather -- Always -- for Spider-Man

Britney Spears is no Imelda Marcos, apparently – all she needs is one pair of boots, as Us observes. The $170 Kenneth Cole boots – a relative bargain in super-celeb-land – made four separate appearances on Britney in one week, leading Us to wonder if she's spending more time with them than her own kids. ... Gwen Stefani tells People she's been on a diet since the sixth grade, and that when she was pregnant last year, she had to crawl into her brother's car and lay down in the back seat just to go to Target to avoid the glare of the paparazzi. ... "Spider-Man" star Tobey Maguire says he's going totally leather-free – and he's on his way to becoming completely vegan. Maguire doesn't have leather seats in his car, remarkably enough.

91. The apology has been accepted. Imus is fine. The basketball team is fine. Everybody needs to move on and find something else to do.

92. An apology means nothing if BEHAVIOR doesn't change.

93. Gina, you are so right. Prayer is definitely what is needed.

94. To 101. - People need to forgive each other; but, they doesn't mean they have to forget.

95. What alot of people are still dismissing is that a new line has been crossed by how Imus' firing has been doled out. I will still wait and see how many of the same comments, some far worse than Imus', are going to be handled from this point. Without the same outrage this is no more than a witch hunt and a double standard. So there is more to it than he apologized, they accepted it, move on.

96. Free Speech cuts all ways, not only the Imus way (and his ilk) . Imus forgot that little detail.
These cowardly jocks get carried away with punching the Disconnect button by their mikes when someone disagrees or takes issue with what they're spouting. Their 'screeners' do the same thing. Well, Imus no longer has either a mike nor a screener to protect him - and what
does he now look like? Anything but a tough talking shock jock.
Simply a bitter old and haggard man who will become more pathetic in
his remaining years. Put it this way, Lin Wood wouldn't even take
Imus as a client. The guy is radioactive waste. R.I.P. Imus.

Strip these guys of their protective tools and they all look the same --cowards all. Rush Limbaugh even orders his meals from the internet, too afraid to go out in public without his tools. Or when he does go out, it's in only 'friendly terrority'. (I hope ol' Rush gets the axe next or seriously reconsiders what he deems 'safe' trash talk.)

97. And the rest of the world continues to laugh and mock Americans.

98. So Imus got canned for a stupid comment he made on a TV show. Jackson and Sharpton have decided to clean up the airwaves. As a show of sincerity and the belief of truth in their actions, I trust they will use what ever power they have to ban all music award shows that recognize artists for the sexist and racist language in their musical endevors. I trust they will speak to the orgainizers of these musical award shows to have those categories which award groups of performers that use sexist and racist remarks as a basis for their style of music to be removed from the award categories. I trust they will speak to all networks to refuse to air all type of programming in which racist and sexist dialogue is used. I trust that they will soon be pounding down the doors of all recording executives demanding that they no longer make available to the general public any form of music that features racist and sexual remarks. I trust they will monitor all sponsers that withdrew from the Imus show to ensure they will no longer promoting any type of artist who uses racist or sexist language either on tour or in an advertising campaign. I trust that if Sharpton and Jackson do mothing about the above and we do we will hear cries of racism.

99. EXACTLY!!!!!!!! THEY DIDN'T EVEN WIN THE GAME AND THE LADY VOLS HAVEN'T EVEN HAD A CHANCE TO SHINE BECAUSE OF ALL OF THIS CRAP.... AND I HAVE BEEN ASKING MYSELF SINCE THIS AM - IT IS VERY IRONIC THAT SOMEONE HITS THE GOVERNOR OF N.J.'S VEHICLE WHEN HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE AT THE GOV'S MANSION TO BE A STANDBY (AND I BELIEVE THAT WAS SO NOTHING SERIOUS WOULD HAPPEN TO IMUS OR HIS WIFE) AND HE IS HIT BY A TRUCK THAT TAKES OFF... HIT AND RUN...... AND THIS MAN IS SERIOUSLY INJURED.... I THINK THE TRUTH IS GOING TO COME OUT THAT THIS WAS A SET UP TO KEEP HIM FROM BEING AT THE MANSION. THIS MAN HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED.... THIS IS A VERY SAD STATE.. AND THIS IS A MESS THAT SHARPTON AND JACKSON (WHOM HAVE NO SKELTONS IN THEIR CLOSETS) HAVE BEEN BEIND WITH THEIR THREATS ABOUT PICKETING UNTIL IMUS WAS FIRED... WELL, GIRLS YOU STILL CAN'T SHINE BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T WIN THAT GAME..... AND I AM A LADY VOLS FAN......... GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THAT WAS ALSO VERY BIG OF YOU TO FORGIVE IMUS AND I THINK THESE GIRLS SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO ON WITH THEIR LIVES AND BE LEFT ALONE... THEY DIDN'T START IT, IMUS DID, BUT THEY STATED THEY DIDN'T WANT HIM FIRED ONLY AFTER HE WAS FIRED..... SO, NOW IT IS TIME TO GO AFTER THE RAPPERS WHO ARE GROSS AND DISGUSTING AND AS A WHITE FEMALE I FIND IT EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE HEARING ANY AND ALL FEMALES REFERRED TO AS BITCHES....... LET'S REALLY CLEAN UP... IF IMUS HAS TO PAY THE FIDDLER LET'S GET RID OF THE REST OF THESE LOW LIFES.... KATHY

100. Everyone has turned this into something that it is not. This was between Imus and the Rutgers Basketball player. Who are you guys to judge anyone anyways? There is only ONE person who can and that day will come. Rap music has nothing to do with this. I am pretty sure that other genres of music aren't exactly preaching the Bible. Let's not dwell on what already happened and let's try to make a difference. If you don't like what you saw or heard, try to change it but, trashing each other is NOT the way to do it. Enough with the ignorance and racism. Let's PROMOTE LOVE and UNITY, something that a lot of people in our history worked for.

101. Very gracious of Dierdre to ask morons to stop sending hate mail to the team, but sending it to the husband? Bottom line? people shouldn't be writing hate letters at all!

102. IT SCARES ME HOW SOFT WE ARE IN THIS COUNTRY, IT'S JUST WORDS!!!IF EVERYBODY LOST THERE JOBS FOR A POOR CHOISE OF WORDS,THEN WE ALL WOULD BE IN TROUBLE.THOSE GIRLS DID NOT ASK FOR THIS, BUT WHY A MEETING? DID IT TURN ANYONES LIFE AROUND?WHY WHEN SOMEONE SAYS THERE SORRY, IT IS NEVER ENOUGH? COME ON EVERYONE< GROW A BACKBONE!!!!

103. He should have been fired for lack of talent....

104. i would like for jessie and al to shut the hell up ! i have never seen either of the two of them condemn their own people for the terminology they use.they jump on this band wagon to serve their own means which are contributions to their twisted causes.i have personally never enslaved any of thier people nor have i ever thought that practice was just or fair. but they both need to occupy their time with furthering their race because they deserve it instead of for their own personal gains and as far as don is conserned he should be asshamed of himself for what he said but he should not be hung on the court house lawn for a stupid mistake.especially when it is condoned by the youth of the very same offended race.

Posted at 10:54PM on Apr 13th 2007 by danny

105. So one down...how many more to go? Also, why is it okay for media bigwigs like O'Reilly, Limbaugh, to disparage women, gays, and various religions? Why is that okay?

The site that brought the Imus comments to light has a whole list of offenses from those 2 and others -- why isn't anyone picking up the story? Here's the link: http://mediamatters.org/items/200704120010

Seems to me that racism and sexism aren't the only issues -- looks like ageism came into play in Imus' case as well as jealous colleagues wanting his marketshare...
