Lets Get This Party Started
Imus Slammed by Rutgers Players -- "Why Us?"

Don Imus got an earful from the Rutgers student-athletes he labeled "nappy-headed hos" last night, as he met with them at the New Jersey governor's mansion, for the first time since he made the racist slur that cost him his jobs at MSNBC and, yesterday, CBS Radio. Adding injury to the insult debacle, N.J. Governor Jon S. Corzine was seriously injured in a car wreck on his way to the meeting.

According to Deirdre Imus, Don's wife, who was filling in for him this morning on WFAN, the shock-jock heard from each player on the Rutgers women's basketball team, their coach, some of their parents, and university administrators during the three-hour meeting at the New Jersey governor's mansion. The common refrain from all the players was, according to the New York Daily News, "Why us?"

Deirdre Imus pleaded with listeners to stop sending hate mail to the Rutgers team members – and invited them to send the hate to her husband instead.

J.Lo – Speaking in Scientology?

Jennifer Lopez may have let slip a little Scientology-speak during her appearance on "American Idol," leading people to wonder if she's more involved in the Church than she's letting on.

J.Lo responded to a question from Ryan Seacrest about Simon Cowell's acid tongue by saying she believed that "concentrating on the rightness brings more rightness." According to Rush & Molloy, "rightness" is a central tenet in the L. Ron Hubbard lexicon, and it's no wonder that Lopez has it on the tip of her tongue: Her dad, David Lopez, has been a Scientologist for 20 years, and one of her best friends, actress Leah Remini, is an avowed Church member as well. Still, Lopez has repeatedly denied being involved herself.

Courtney – Oprah's My Thin-spiration

Courtney Love is insisting that she hasn't had gastric-band surgery, as some are whispering, given her newly toned physique – and she's crediting Oprah Winfrey for her weight loss. "I couldn't get that surgery if I begged for it. I got my inspiration from Oprah losing so much weight on Slim-Fast," says Love on her website, as Rush & Molloy point out. Courtney's been spotted in the last couple weeks wearing tiny bikinis and sporting a very flat stomach, leading to all kinds of speculation as to how she dropped the pounds.

Party Favors: Britney Always Looks Good in Those Boots ... Gwen Stefani Says She's "Always" Dieting ... No Leather -- Always -- for Spider-Man

Britney Spears is no Imelda Marcos, apparently – all she needs is one pair of boots, as Us observes. The $170 Kenneth Cole boots – a relative bargain in super-celeb-land – made four separate appearances on Britney in one week, leading Us to wonder if she's spending more time with them than her own kids. ... Gwen Stefani tells People she's been on a diet since the sixth grade, and that when she was pregnant last year, she had to crawl into her brother's car and lay down in the back seat just to go to Target to avoid the glare of the paparazzi. ... "Spider-Man" star Tobey Maguire says he's going totally leather-free – and he's on his way to becoming completely vegan. Maguire doesn't have leather seats in his car, remarkably enough.

17. SInce you are the only CREDIBLE Black leader who has publicly called for the Black population to eradicate the denegrating words acceptable in their own vocabluary, such as "ho", "pimp", "n" word, you must pick the mantle left by Martin Luther King Jr. Unfortunately, Oprah and others must be afraid of the music moguls and fallout to their own careers. Having lost a son, you know what real pain is - forget bank accounts. Thank you Bill Cosby for taking the HIGH ROAD in the past - for you it's definitely the road less travelled. However, White America is so grateful that at least one Black leader "gets it" and isn't avoiding the subject. Hey Oprah - WHERE ARE YOU ON THIS? ASK YOURSELF - WHAT WOULD NELSON MANDELA, MAYA ANGELOU AND MOST OF ALL -

18. This will hurt the Rutgers girls for a little while but look at the publicity they got. An hour press conference, national interviews for the coach, and Big Mama Oprah Too!!! Had Imus said nothing only the limited girls basketball sports world would have heard about them. Now tens of millions of people know of them. In the long run, it has done wonders for thier basketball program and their recruting. They just got millions of dollars worth of free publicity. 2,3, or 4 years from now they will be a powerhouse. They should be thanking Don Imus for being the sacrificial lamb that he is and nothing will be done about the 'gansta hood' hip hop that continually demeans black women.

19. I heard the coach say that some of don imus fans was sending emails to the team. How do they know it was his fans? It was probably someone trying to make others look bad here. It is offensive to me to say that his fans were sending these emails without checking out who sent these. They do have ways to find out . I would not want someone to be falsely accused of something that someone else is doing . My husband is a fan and he would not condone anyone sending ugly emails because he said that the comment was uncalled for. I can say that most of us do have decency and just because we watch his show does not mean we like what he said but we do admit he crossed the line in which he has said all along. Good for you Don Imus for apologizing. It takes a person of good character to admit that he crossed the . Where is the character of others to accept his apology!!!!!!!

21. I haven't watched Imus in years as I find him boring. While his remarks were tasteless and uncalled for, I think he has been made a scapegoat. Sharpton and Jackson are having a field day with this one. They make me sick. When I read that one of the Rutger's girls said she has been scarred for life, I knew this was being blown out of proportion. Punish Imus, fine him, whatever, but to destroy his entire career is going overboard.

22. Post # 24 nailed it! Frist of all, two wrongs do not make a right. Sure rappers and anyone else who make derogatory comments about women are wrong. An argument is not properly persecuted by tit for tat ramblings. The merits of the issue at hand should be the focus. Imus was woefully wrong. When one has that much public exposure, he has to be right 100 % of the time. He must realize that like a space pilot, any "small defect" can take him down. This could be the beginning of a united America against all forms of racial insults cloaked in the disguise of humor. People, this is a new world, one where idioarchy and stupity will be harshly dealt with.

24. Scoop - You took the words right out of my mouth (so to speak). I am not a racist. I am very live and let live... But I also feel like I shouldn't have to apologize for being white. (Imus - you blew it!)

25. #22 - Whatever ... you are an ignorant doink and that has nothing to do with the color of your skin. How do you know the color of the people who are sending hate mail to the girls on the basketball team ... did you know every single person who sent hate mail to them so you know the color of their skin??? I guess it's ok for your to assume that it's white people who are sending hate mail because a black person would never do that. Yes you're right, there are white people who are racists, there are black people who are racists ... there are racists all over this world and they come in many shapes, sizes and colors. Since when has Imus become a "leader" of white people in this country ... I just thought he was some old man who had his own tv/radio shows I must have missed the election when we made him a leader in this country. If you were intelligent enough to process the posts on this topic, no one is blaming rappers for any of our own hatered as you like to say .... they are using the rappers as a compasion of the double standards that go on in this country but then again if you weren't so blinded by your own ignorance and racism you would understand that.

26. I am not a fan of Imus however I recognize he has dedicated much of his career on helping the needy poor people of this country. Now, because of this racist beady-eyed Sharpton character, Imus will be remembered in history as the guy who called some girls a slang word, words he only mimicked from the girls black brothers. Pretty sad. I hope this thing goes full circle and Imus comes out ahead. He apologized profusely, something the angry black spokesmen have never done when they were wrong. I am appauled at NBC and CBS. We should boycvott them.

28. I believe with #4---the Rutgers' girls have handled themselves well. But Sharpton exploits these situations and turns the story into a story about what he has to say. He becomes the story. I hope people and the media don't allow Sharpton to take over all these stories anymore. People should not have to apologize to Al Sharpton when they mess up. Imus met with the team, privately, and he should have--but Al Sharpton is not a representative of what is morally right or wrong. If he wants to make the world a better place, focus on getting rappers and musicians to stop demoralizing women. Stop them from calling all women whores.
