Don Imus Canned by CBS Radio -- Ho, Ho, Ho

Imus is firedDon Imus was just fired by CBS Radio in the wake of his "nappy-headed hos" slur, meaning he will no longer be on the air, either on television or radio, effective immediately.

Imus was originally suspended by CBS for two weeks after he made his remark last week on his radio and television shows. MSNBC took the step of pulling his TV simulcast off the air yesterday, but public outrage swelled and advertisers disappeared in droves.

In a statement announcing the firing, CBS chairman Leslie Moonves said:

"From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent. Those who have spoken with us the last few days represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society – all races, economic groups, men and women alike. In our meetings with concerned groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision, as have the many emails, phone calls and personal discussions we have had with our colleagues across the CBS Corporation and our many other constituencies."

78. Imus got exactly what he deserves. Funny, watch Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson gloat and take all the credit…when in truth it was the actions of the multi million dollar sponsors pulling away.

So, not only is Imus out of work…so is Jackson and Sharpton…that is….until another protesting opportunity comes up for those two “regulars.”

79. I am a minority, and I do not agree with this. I happen to know that black radio hosts, entertainers make fun of other people all the time.

This is black-rage at its best. I dont like IMUS, but he doesnt deserve to be lynched publicly. He ia a human being, who deserves a chance. If we are all truthful, we have all said some racists things- lets not pretend.

The so-called leaders who represent the African Americans are a joke!! The N.A.A.C.P is useless. They have not accomplished anything in thirty years. Blacks, attend the worse public schools across America. Their neighborhoods are a blight to society. The fahters are absent from majority of households. What real change has this out-dated organization made?

Sharpton, wants to be something, he just doesnt know what. So he carries his rage across America. Jesse, has illigitimate children, and doesnt do much of anything.

The real leaders are long gone, and have yet to be replaced. Martin Luther King, was a great man, and would always forgive. He would demand chang, but he would forgive.

This is not what we have here.

IMUS, deserves forgivness, like all the rest of us.

80. Why do people assume that all blacks like rap music?? Or that poverty is something specific to the black community? I for one hate rap music and there are more poor whites than poor backs. I think Imus is a racist jackass and don't accept his apology. I also am not a fan of Sharpton or Jackson and think the people who wrote these posts assuming that all blacks like Sharpton or Jackson are idiots. Stop lumping all black people into one group! I don't go around saying all whites are country rednecks so grow up and stop stereotyping people you obviously don't know.

81. So many people are talking about freedom of speech. The difference is people in the public eye, who count of big corporations to pay their paychecks have to be careful. Nothing was done to Michael Richards, Chris Rock, or any other comedian because if you don't like them you don't go see their show. They are not dependent on Big Corporations.
As far as rappers are concerned, the same applies. We can't stop rappers from saying derogatory things. The only thing we can do is not buy their records. Imus has a huge following, he will be all right. People who like his hateful talk can pay to hear him on satellite radio. We need to clean up some of this hateful talk. It does nothing to heal race relations. I think he has apologized enough. He needs to talk personally to the young ladies he’s offended.
I don’t think Imus is a bad person but he got a little too comfortable and thought he was funny. It is unfortunate for EVERYONE involved, but the Big Corporations were right in doing what they did.

82. I guess Imus has been "Dixie Chicked". He was wrong in calling anyone a ho but the blacks call each other that ALL THE TIME on their CD's and in their community and do nothing about it. The Black community should clean up their own back yard. Unfortunately, most people have pottie mouths, and it is passed on the the kids. Imus went, now Rush Limbaugh, Neal Boortz, Sean Hannity should go too. Then make fun of poor people, fat people, gays, etc. While NBC and CBS is cleaning house, lets get rid of them also. I have a better idea, do away with radio, none of it is worth a damn anyway. NONE OF IT. It is all censorship.

83. I thought it was pretty damn funny, myself. What a bunch of sissy babies.

84. I'll be damned if i'd go ahead with the meeting planned to meet with the nap.......er, young women from basketball team now. He apologized till his lips hurt, but that wasn't enough, now they want his blood.

Imus don't go to that pizzant meeting where more mud will be thrown in your face. You did enough. You are square with the house.

85. I emailed his to CBS:

Shame on you CBS. I can't believe you fired Imus. I for one will boycott you, not because I liked Imus, but because you caved to political correctness. What happened to free speech? Are you going to systematically start censoring all those on your network? Honestly, I rarely watched the show, but I am furious with how you handled this. And you know what else?
This has FUELED RACISM. Yes, read the blogs all over the internet. Whites are angry that there is a double standard for blacks who are the very ones who coined the terms "Ho". Do you remember Eddie Murphy on Saturday Night Live years ago playing a pimp doing an infomercial "How to be a Ho". Yes - you are hypocrites. Speech is now determined not by what is said, but by who says it. I guess it's Jay Leno all the time now.

Posted at 5:27PM on Apr 12th 2007 by Racism - it goes both ways! Blacks are just as guilty!

86. Suspend Imus for a while and then have him take half of earnings and give it the united negro fund.

Posted at 5:20PM on Apr 12th 2007 by kate

87. Free speech is never free. Everyone on here trying to blame his firing on the black community needs to do their homework. This man has continuely made racist and sexist comments for years and enough is enough. He said the wrong statement about a group of people who were not going to let him get away with it. Had he not said it, he would not be fired. Bottom line. If it wasn't for WHITE people buying all the rappers music calling women hoes, bitches, ni%^as, then the music wouldn't be on the radio. So white people blame yourself for keeping this type of music alive. What race is running the record labels putting out this music? Need I say more.......Wherever there's a dollar to be made you will find a white man behind it all.

88. On Oprah today they were teaching dance moves. She made the comment about how when you are at a party and there is always one white guy who can't dance. Everyone laughed and laughed. Should I be offended? Just everyone wait. Sharpton and Jackson and all the others watch out. Somewhere someone has something on all of you, and it will come out now. This is going to make more hate than ever between the races. I am feeling it already.

89. Sponsors for Don Imus show...Proctor & gamble...Staples... GM.. they are the ones that got him fired.

90. #68 as I recall it was Jesse Jackson who said he was going to pay for this girl's tuition. I wonder what he is thinking right now.

I am personally sick of hearing about it. He apologized, whether he is sincere or not is not for me to judge but we have so many other serious issues to worry about that all energy is being used up on this issue.

Before you clean up someone else's house, you have to clean your own house. I do not know how these guys sleep at night. I think they are afraid to go after the rappers, comedians, executives they definitley need to be censored. It is just annoying.
