Don Imus Canned by CBS Radio -- Ho, Ho, Ho

Imus is firedDon Imus was just fired by CBS Radio in the wake of his "nappy-headed hos" slur, meaning he will no longer be on the air, either on television or radio, effective immediately.

Imus was originally suspended by CBS for two weeks after he made his remark last week on his radio and television shows. MSNBC took the step of pulling his TV simulcast off the air yesterday, but public outrage swelled and advertisers disappeared in droves.

In a statement announcing the firing, CBS chairman Leslie Moonves said:

"From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent. Those who have spoken with us the last few days represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society – all races, economic groups, men and women alike. In our meetings with concerned groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision, as have the many emails, phone calls and personal discussions we have had with our colleagues across the CBS Corporation and our many other constituencies."

61. Will someone please post a list of CBS and MSNBC sponsors? I say we all boycot ALL of them.

I didn't watch Imus, anyway, BUT I'd like to make my OWN choices of what I do or don't want to watch - AND I think they should take into consideration all the good Imus has done. I think both these stations have been hoodwinked by a couple UNFORGIVING REVERANDS!!! What a poor example of a REVERAND!!!

64. To all the women taking up for Imus I hope you are not fat or ugly. Or if you went on his show he would have told you to your face. He hates women. So keep taking up for him. Google Imus and Contessa Brewer and see what he did to this beautiful young white MSNBC anchor. It is not a race thing,

65. Well, looks like Sharpton and Jackson will be happy campers. What I would like to know is what gives them the right to be the judge and jury in all this? This double standard thing is just unreal. Do you see Jackson and Sharpton apologizing for their statements regarding the Duke Lacrosse players???? No, and you never will, They feel they can say anything and it isn't "racist" simply because they are black? Get real! I never liked Imus, but to see this happen is just unreal. The man apologized and was going to be suspended for two weeks...but Sharpton was out for blood and demanded his firing even threatening rallies if this wasn't done. Fire Sharpton...oh wait...you can't because he doesn't have a "real job". CBS and MSNBC caved into two idiots who think they are the "Supreme Authority" in what goes on???? I fear this is just the beginning of racial unrest in our society and Jackson and Sharpton will be to blame. Their "no justice no peace" slogan is ridiculous. Did Sharpton ever apologize to Pagonas in the Tawana Brawley incident?? No...Sharpton's comments about him were a lot worse then what Imus said ....where is the justice? Sharpton, Jackson and Maddox lost a lawsuit and were supposed to pay Pagonas $375,000. To this day, not one of them has paid a dime....Sharpton saying he doesn't have that kind of money. Hmmm, well, I guess someone is donating his $2,000 suits to him them??? Another thing about Sharpton and the Brawley incident...some say it was his hurtful lies and comments that led to the death of one of the people involved in that case. The poor man committed suicide because of all the attention he got....mainly by Sharpton and Brawley's LIES!!! Wake up American and say you don't agree with this double standard!! Write/email CBS and MSNBC and let them know you don't agree with them. Oh, and do what Sharpton does...threaten to boycott the sponsors of Imus' show.

67. like i said before - freedom of speech is only affordable to those with nothing to lose. Imus forgot that little fact, thought he could say whatever he wanted, but he gambled with his career everytime he did that and it finally caught up to him

68. Ministers should forgive----I thought G-d was colorblind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Personally I think Imus is a nasty man and used his program so he could rake in $$$ for his ranch. He benefited from it and used it for a 'few weeks' for kids with cancer and wrote it off as a tax deduction when he used it for' months ' with his family w/o the sick kids!!
He got sponsors for his ranch from his programs. The ranch is a scam!! These poor kids need to work , read about the chores etc. This is charity!!
However, I hate Sharpton and jesse jackson more!!!

69. I am sick from reading all these rude comments. These women worked so hard to acheive excellence. EVERY WOMAN, NO MATTER WHAT RACE, SHOULD BE OFFENDED by Imus' comments.

70. This is going way to far. If that was an african american making fun of a caucasion, it would be no big deal. You see it all the time on television, the african american making fun of the "white guy". This is soo... ridiculous. I'm Native American and I notice all the time that white persons cannot make any racial comments about Natives but we do it all the time and it's no issue at all. It's not the first time anyone has ever made a racial slur and it certainly won't be the last.

74. Mr. Imus,

I'm sorry that this happened to you. However, do not quit, get your butt onto satellite
radio or HBO, etc.
You had the best and most informative morning show that I have watched. It is very
educational. Now, where am I going to see or hear Bernie, Chuck, Chris the sports guy,
Sid, Lou, Ashley, Rob Bartlett, etc.. Now what am I going to do in the morning?
The book writers will miss you.

75. Isn' t this rich? As a white woman.....I want to hear the Reverend Sharpton's conversation witth the white Duke University male students and his apology. The big black PAC best understand that their smug manner doesn't portray them with a fraction of the class that the Ruger's Team displayed.
