Don Imus Canned by CBS Radio -- Ho, Ho, Ho

Imus is firedDon Imus was just fired by CBS Radio in the wake of his "nappy-headed hos" slur, meaning he will no longer be on the air, either on television or radio, effective immediately.

Imus was originally suspended by CBS for two weeks after he made his remark last week on his radio and television shows. MSNBC took the step of pulling his TV simulcast off the air yesterday, but public outrage swelled and advertisers disappeared in droves.

In a statement announcing the firing, CBS chairman Leslie Moonves said:

"From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent. Those who have spoken with us the last few days represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society – all races, economic groups, men and women alike. In our meetings with concerned groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision, as have the many emails, phone calls and personal discussions we have had with our colleagues across the CBS Corporation and our many other constituencies."

16. This is absurd!!! This will only further divide the country. Shameful!!! Imus has done far more the terminally ill children and our soldiers than the those losers, jackson and sharpton!!! And they call themselves, Reverends. Just shameful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

18. Al Shapton and gang get to keep their jobs, because they yell louder! Haven't you ever noticed how the scream and yell and we (white people) will do anything to shut them up, kind of like when a child throws a fit.

21. Eddie - Nope, they are scarred for life because some drunken washed out haggard beast called them a name. Lots a luck in real life girls. The world is a mean freaking place. Imus - one of many jackasses in the world. Frankly I think those girls were more pissed about being called nay headed than hos. No tears for either side.

22. I am sorry to hear this. I am very alarmed that 2 black hypocrites can decide for me what I can listen to or watch. I think that these Black athletes were right to be mad about the comment but they should not of let Sharpton & jackson use them to race divide. And if this very tasteless comment has ruined their whole lives then they have bigger problems to deal with.

23. How sad! This is a free country with freedom of speech. I do not agree with what he said but I also have the right to chose to not watch him or listen to him. I think it is very sad that people can say far worse and get away with it. Far far worse was said about the Duke Laccrose team and they had done nothing wrong. And when is Rosie going to get fired for her antics? People say far worse about the president and our troops and ect. and we have to worry about what Imus says because he is a white man who offended the black community. It is wrong what he said and I do not condone it at all but what about the harshness that Sharpton and Jackson have said about the white community?? But that is ok??Sad, Sad, Sad......

26. This is absolutely ridiculous... A black rap star says much worse and makes millions but a white man loses his job over a silly statement. If these ho's are that easily offended then they probably should ask their mommies to change the channel........

27. OK then I guess we can look forward to no further airings of rap music, no more free speech from anyone. Political correctness at its finest! What a SHOCK, a shock jock says something, what? SHOCKING, perhaps?????? I am deeply saddened. What ever happened to rights? i.e. right to listen or change the channel. Big Brother comes to the rescue of the weak minded puppets. All advertisers who jumped on this and pulled advertising should be ashamed! Our ancestors fought and died for our right to choose and YOU took away my right to choose today.

28. That's okay.

I just won't ever hire a black person for my business now. I can't have them taking offense and overreacting at every little thing I say.
