Casualty of Don? Deirdre Imus Ditches Book Tour

This won't be a pleasant week in the Imus household.

TMZ has learned that Deirdre Imus, wife of Don, has bailed out of two high-profile live appearances on "The View" and "The Martha Stewart Show," in the wake of Don's "nappy-headed ho" slur that has caused a national furor.

In fact, the whole book tour's been nixed.

A rep for Deirdre's publisher, Simon & Schuster, says that the entire promotional tour for "Green This! Volume One: Greening Your Cleaning," which was timed to coincide with the book's debut yesterday, has been postponed indefinitely. "Because of the pressure that the Imus family has been under," says the rep, "family is her first priority at this time."

This morning, several major advertisers pulled their ad dollars from the Imus show, and he's been suspended for two weeks from CBS Radio and MSNBC for his unseemly remarks about the Rutgers University women's basketball team.

33. The PR people for Imus' wife called this one wrong. This would be perfect timing for her to do damage control for him and draw a larger readership for her book.

What he did was wrong and just because he could get away with it does not make it right. In the interest of the nation, it's best that someone showed outrage at it even though he is known for this type of behavor. Now let's show this same outrage for the guy who is now getting away with having a website just for the child molestors. This guy gives instructions on how to rape children and where to go to find them. He even puts up pictures of children, gives activities they are most likely to be at unsupervised and other ungodly things, but the government, OUR GOVERNMENT says there is nothing they can do because of free speech. HURTING EACH OTHER IS NOT WHAT WAS INTENDED WHEN THE 'FREE SPEECH' LAW WAS WRITTEN, WE NEED TO AMEND IT TO THE EXCLUSION OF HURTING MINORS WHO R DEFENSLESS AND EXCLUDING PROMOTION OF HATRED.

That being said, Imus meant it for bad but I believe God intended it for good. Maybe we'll begin to discuss it at our water coolers, at the dinner table, and in our classrooms. It's the type of thing that launches big changes. Let's use it for the Good.

My sincere sympathy to Imus' wife -- but I say hold your head high and let the public know that you are working on him. You'd be surprised what this would do FOR your book. Hiding in the shadows sends a message that you agree with him, and you just dont want to be questioned about it.

If it aint so, SHOW IT....TALK IT.....WALK IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

35. Does the fact that Rev. Jackson and Rev. Sharpton are "dishonest" make his remarks OK? He is neither Black nor a rapper, just a bigot.

36. She knew what she was getting when she married him. She married the fame and the money and she gets the bad with the good. His moeny has given her what she wanted. They both have tooted thier own horn about how good they are compared to others, and about how much they do as tho they are greater than others. He did not do anything he has not been doing all along critizing all kinds of people and groups of people. All the political guests knew this all along yet they continued to appear on his program and even sometimes joined his sarcasitc words. I do not think he should be fired based on judgement from the likes of Al A, and Jessie J. types. Lets be fair here. Their is a freedom of speech in this country. But The market place will determine. He did say an awful thing about the Rutgers girls, but he also got them unlimted media coverage they would never have gotton had this not happened. Has anyone in the press earlier called for such extreme punishment of Imus when he said such awful things against others. I do not think he is a racest. I do think he should either have a comedy program or a political program. His mix of the two does not work and caused me to limit my viewing of his program long ago along with his and his wife's appearing to look down on others.

37. Where has Sharpton and Jackson been? For years Rappers, movie stars and other african Amaericans have used that language toward one another. I saw Opry with Several rappers, stars on her show. They were calling each other names associated with the N word and more. She told them not to use that terminology. They said it was ok they were homeboys. As she stated, it only opens up the language to be used by others which could lead to someone getting hurt by the words against them. Have you heard the Rap songs out???? The girls on that team probably listens to that kind of music which uses the same terminology. I think it is awful for those words to be used after those girls worked so hard to be acknowledged, then they are slammed with the same terminology that is used in the African Americans rap songs. So if Imus is to be punished then I say pull the songs off the charts that uses this and other degrading remarks. You all know what I'm talking about. Wake up America this is a chance to change Imus's programming to discuss this issue. So use his suspension to change the shows format. The format. Clean up the music our children are exposed to. Discuss proper programming for a positive outlook. Comedy can be used in a positive manner.
As for Imus's wife. She has the right to tour and push her book and give her opinion on her husbands behavior. Let her speak out.
Wake up Jackson and Sharpton. Clean up the music studeos then we can complain about vocabulary done stupidity for humor??????
Grow Up.....

40. So what, did he hurt anyone? NOOOOOOOOOO! And it's okay for blacks to say things about white but by God don't dare let a white person even THINK something like what he said. I'm so sick of this crap and sick of the black people who scream racist when they're the biggest racist group of all.

Posted at 6:16PM on Apr 11th 2007 by Oh please!

41. #27 I agree. I am a black female and I have my own voice. Sharpton and Jackson love to rush for the sake of justice. I did not even know who Don was until he said what he said. But now in knowing alittle about him I have been more enlightened. He is an equal opportunity radio host. He does not care about color or creed. I think he just calls it like he sees it. I did not say it is right. And I agree that the book signing should have went on as planned. Great way to put some of the fire out. And I did not know who she was either. She seems like a nice lady. At the end of the day be it good or bad they both made new fans.

42. IF IMUS IS BANNED ,THAN SO TOO SHOULD THE DEGRADING RAP MUSIC. BLACK MEN DISRESPECT BLACK FEMALES FAR WORSE THAN IMUS EVER DID. YOU CAN HEAR HO'S AND BITCHES EVERYDAY ON THE RADIO. IMUS SHOULD NOT BE BANNED. THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM IS WITH BLACK UNITY. BLACK MEN SELL OUT ALL THE TIME , JUST AS ALWAYS THEY WANT TO BLAME THERE PROBLEMS ON THE WHITE MEN. WHAT HAPPEN TO BLACK AND PROUD?

43. I think Mrs. Imus cancelling her book tour amidst the ongoing controversy suggests class....Mrs. Imus I will buy your book, also I have your ranch cookbook,( proceeds went to the camp)....yes Mrs. Imus you have class, something sadly lacking in todays society, and I guess an apology today in not enough....those unable to accept that have little or no class....we are all guilty of saying stupid things and the reaction to this is way OVERBOARD!!! I will NOT shop at Staples or any other corporate sponsor who pulled out of MSNBC, because I am willing to bet that they have so many BLACK CEO's.....who's racist??!!! Americans better start to get it, it is NOT race warfare it's CLASS warfare and we who are still left in the middle or working class better start to band together regardless of our color or beliefs....

45. I have watched Imus for years.. yes he said something awful (but he is a shock jock) and he was the first of the shock jocks. But when you sincerely appoligize it shoud be accepted. Sharpton and Jackson are 2 of the most racist people in this country. They love to do this because its the only time they can look important. Black people do not listen to them any other time. This is sad because he does so much for charity, autism, kids with cancer returning vets, etc. this really hurts those kids.
