Debra Opri Bills Birkhead King's Ransom

Debra Opri, Larry BirkheadTMZ has learned Larry Birkhead got a Fed Ex on Saturday, and it was not good news. It was a bill for legal services from Debri Opri, the lawyer he fired two weeks ago. The total: $620,492.84.

Opri billed her services out at $475 an hour. Here are some of the charges:

- A total of three $1,500 monthly charges for Luck Media & Marketing, Opri's personal publicist.

- On March 1, 2007, the day before Anna's funeral, there is a charge of 10 hours for "preparation for and attendance in Bahamas re services and var. meetings re same." On the day of Anna's funeral, there is another 10 hour charge with the exact same language. Ironically, TMZ knows Birkhead asked Opri not to even attend the funeral, but she did anyway. On March 3, Opri charged yet another 10 hours for travel from Nassau back to L.A.

- On February 24, 2007, while Opri and Birkhead stayed at a private residence in Ft. Lauderdale during the Florida hearing, Opri billed $600 for Seafood World. We're told she brought four trays of lobster to the house. The bill says, "Dinner gift/Ft. Lauderdale house stay." But it was no gift to Larry. That same day, she billed $211 for items at Publix grocery store.

- March 8, 2007, Opri billed $161.65 for an Outback Steakhouse dinner. And get this -- the bill was for $111.65. Opri left a $50 tip and billed Birkhead, who wasn't even there!

- Opri billed Birkhead $4,265 for Cingular roaming service while she was in the Bahamas.

- Opri billed Birkhead 18 times for Diva Limos that took them to and from the Ft. Lauderdale courthouse to the private residence.

- October 22, 2006, Opri billed Birkhead $1,116.16 for a dinner at Graycliff, a restaurant in Nassau. The note next to the charge is "Alexiou atty mtg." Alexiou is Birkhead's lawyer in the Bahamas. Birkhead was not present.

- The next day, October 23, Opri billed $2,467.75 at Graycliff restaurant for another meal. The charge again was for "Alexiou atty mtg." Again, Birkhead was not present.

- Also on October 23, Birkhead was billed $25.75. The item -- "laundry service Zawacki." Zawacki is Opri's husband, who was present on the trip. Ouch!

- Opri's bill reveals that "20/20" is more than a TV show -- it's the number of hours she bills for a "20/20" interview with Larry Birkhead. Opri and Birkhead went from L.A. to New York City on December 9, 2006, did the interview and returned the next day. Opri billed 10 hours travel time each way.

In all, the packet of bills Birkhead received today totaled 112 pages. Opri offered Birkhead a bargain: Instead of the $620,492.84 bill, she offered him a discount at $511,365.09, but only if he accepts immediately. Opri wrote, "I'm still willing to accept the discounted billing at this time, but only without further discussion."

TMZ contacted James Levesque, Opri's publicist with Luck Media & Marketing. He said, "Debra Opri always gets paid. That's what she does for a living." Beyond that, he wouldn't comment on the bill. Opri could not be immediately reached for comment.

UPDATE: TMZ has just obtained a statement from David Owen, Opri's lawyer. He said, "We're pretty confident that her bills are fair and reasonable and he has not paid them. She is entitled to be paid and he stiffed her and her bills are fair and reasonable."

62. I work for a law firm. Billing for travel time, meals, tips and even meetings where the client isn't present are routine as long as the matter is being discussed. I like Larry. I'm really, really pulling for Larry. But he had to know that he was going to be billed for all these things; his retainer agreement with Opri had to have spelled it all out. It may seem greedy to some people, but who was supposed to pay for all those things? The lawyer?

In the end, Larry Birkhead can sue Koward, his family, his attorneys and anyone else who dragged this out and make them to pay his legal fees. I hope he does. Koward Killer Stern deserves to burn for his hand in this mess.

65. i think HKS should have to pay for any expense occured after annas death, reguarding paternity and anna's estate should have to pay for the time before her death

if you take off to another country to evade our laws then it should be at your expense to pay attorneys for bahamian law

high dollar attorneys win but the charge for it - she made her name before him (and during him) so thats the breaks

It has recently come to light that the lawyers representing Howard K. Stern have hired a public relations firm in an effort to turn his reputation around. A source who is an employee at the office of one of Stern's several lawyers says that Stern's team of advocates are "desperate" and "quite alarmed" that, despite their best efforts to sway public opinion in Mr. Stern's favor, polls indicate that the vast majority of respondents remain vehemently convinced that Stern played a role in the deaths of model Anna Nicole Smith, 39, and her 20-year old son Daniel Wayne Smith.

"The lawyers are scrambling," says the source, who prefers to remain anonymous. "I think they figured people would change their minds after the [autopsy] report was released."

On Monday of this week, Dr.Joshua Perper, Medical Examiner for Broward County in Florida, released his autopsy findings. Dr. Perper determined that Ms. Smith died as a result of a drug overdose and that her death was an accident.

Based on one recent poll, 9 out of 10 respondents did not agree that her death was an accident.

"The blogs are saying differently," our source said. "A lot of people are wondering how the medical examiner could base his findings on testimony that came from people who would be the first ones to lie if they had anything to hide."

According to our source, the internet is filled with blogs, or message boards, where the public can post their opinions about the Anna Nicole Smith case. One such blog can be found at TMZ.com, an entertainment site that posts news related stories about celebrities.

"Mr. Stern's folks have been monitoring the blogs for months now," our source said. "They've been trying really hard to change people minds [about Mr. Stern]. The problem has mushroomed and it’s beyond their capabilities to handle.

"I suppose because they're figuring he may be facing charges here [in the United States], they hired our agency. Part of our job will be to go on the blogs and try to get people to change their minds about their client. People's opinions can affect the jury pool and change the outcome of a trial."

Coincidentally, Mr. Stern's concerns about a tainted jury resulted in an unexpected delay in yesterday's inquest proceedings in the Bahamas. The delay came about because of Mr. Stern's wish to do away with the jury or at least have the opportunity to question the 7-person panel about their impartiality. Such a request is unprecedented. The inquest procedure is rooted in a Common Law tradition dating back almost 300 years.

Chronicler- Thank you!!! I just KNEW that HKS had a PR firm planting shills on boards and blogs like this one and Court T.V!!! There are these bullies that threaten anyone that says anything negative about HKS!! It's blowing up in their face!! Good! Now, if only the moderaters at Court tv and TMZ and other places can just spot these paid off lackeys and get rid of them, that would be wonderful...

69. Oh shame on you larry. You selling your photos to splash news? (virgie and you like splash news - interesting)

well in any case - Howard stop him. This guy signed agreements with anna to not sell her photos without her approval. So larry those photos belong to anna estate not you you slimeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

best news I have heard since this crap happened. Larry started it and its great to see it bite him in the asssss

By the way, the fee opri is charging him is normal for high profile cases. So larry knew all along what the bill was going to be.

Besides I do not trust him, he wrote tmz to make him look bad so that you idiots would start sending cash.

Why not send items to the troops. There are children dying of cancer who need bone marrow transplants.

Sure you only want to help larry forget the ones who really need help.

TMZ sad to see at the bottom of my screen a live psychic reading ad. Shows how low you people are - TABLOID

I am soooo happy right now its the best thing I have read in weeks on this dam site.

Posted at 10:34PM on Mar 31st 2007 by larry is not suppose to be selling those photos

70. Unreal ..... well now Larry can bill Anna's estate for the money...and HKS will have to pay up from Hot Smoochie Lips ....I still think Larry should have taken Greta Van Susteren's hubbys advice and got that DNA from Ohio and then had HKS arrested for kidnapping...his lawyers said he didn't want to..but not the real reason why...there is more to this story....but I hope Larry gets his baby...that poor kid, her Mom's force feeding her drugs while pregnant..denying her her own dad, and now this scumbag has custody of her...Larry...get your baby ...whatever it takes !!!

72. 56. Opri's office address was on the CA Bar site. Why not send a Money Order for a buck or two attn: billing dept and put a note saying it's for payment on the account of Mr. Larry Birkhead. No one will miss a buck, it'll help a single dad out from a huge debt, and well I'd kinda like to see her office have to cash a few thousand MO's for a buck or two, the mail will be coming by semi!

73. Post # 56 - That's an awesome idea.

We can request the billing department to apply it to the "Free Danielynn Fund"!

She's a good attorney but that's really really a lot and to me seems a little over the limit with the meals and such. That's something that she would do anyway, if she were working or not. And the husband too????

Geezzzz Debra, give the guy a break.

74. HE SHOULD HAVE GOT ANNA TO PAY THE BILLS LIKE ME

Posted at 10:33PM on Mar 31st 2007 by HK$TERN

75. Thats pretty much the going rate for a big name lawyer, some charge up to 1,000.00 dollars an hour. Remember a couple of O.J.'s lawyers where 2,500.00 hour plus expences. I do think she padded the bill a little, but I'm sure Larry knew what she charged before he hired her. And I'm sure he didn't think it would take this long. That might be why they split up, he realized it was going to take a l.....o.....n.....g... time.
