Michael Richards -- Biggest Wacko in Hollywood?

Michael Richards once threatened to kill the creator of his own sitcom -- and otherwise revealed himself during the course of the show to be, by one prominent producer's account, the "angriest," "craziest," and "worst" star in the business.

Sam Simon, longtime producer on "The Simpsons" and numerous other shows, told Howard Stern this morning that Richards' racist rant at an L.A. comedy club, brought to you by TMZ, was a public manifestation of what TV insiders have known for years -- namely, that Richards is prone to bizarre, temperamental behaviors that leave everyone shaking their heads.

Richards, says Simon, threatened the life of Spike Feresten, creator of "The Michael Richards Show," the short-lived 2000 NBC sitcom, and did it calmly and chillingly. "I have a gun," said Richards, according to Simon. "I'm going to kill you, and I'll do the time."

And that's not all -- Richards once quit the show in the middle of production, says Simon, with a full studio audience in attendance and wouldn't return until coaxed back by the president of the network. What's more, Richards once stood on his head in the middle of a shot, inexplicably, and was once found in a corner of a soundstage, weeping uncontrollably.

Richards' rep was not immediately available for comment.

UPDATE: When contacted by TMZ, a spokesman for Spike Feresten had no comment on Simon's allegations. TMZ has, however, obtained the following handwritten note sent from Feresten to Richards. The note thanks Richards for supporting Spike's new venture "Talk Show with Spike Feresten."

16. No, the "checks from Seinfeld" are NOT pretty sweet.

In 1997 (and often since), Jason Alexander, Michael Richards, and Julia L-Dreyfus were at serious odds with Jerry Seinfeld, who decided (against the pleas of his co-stars), to cut them COMPLETELY out of any back-end profits related to future royalties from syndication. The cast was NOT happy, and that is the main and ONLY reason that the three asked for $1 Million-an-episode salaries during the last season of the series...because they knew they were not going to get squat.

Jason Alexander made it very clear in 2004 that they all felt Jerry Seinfeld made an unfair, uncool decision by cutting them out, and that it "tainted" the work they they had achived as an ensemble. He noted that he, Richards, and Dreyfus have each made $250,000 on syndication residuals from 1997-2004 (7 years, about $33,000 a year), while Jerry Seinfeld has raked in over 1 BILLION dollars.

Alexander noted that he and the others make only the Screen Actors Guild standard royalty residual wage from reruns.

That's fucked. Especially since Jerry Seinfeld was truly the LEAST funny of the show's cast, and he didn't "write the show himself."

As for Richards, "anger management issues" are NOT the same as "racist issues." Anger management issues do not specifically discriminate upon hapless victims. Racist issues, however, DO. The guy's a blatant, ferocious racist...mentally ill or not.

19. Rumors got it that #16 is actually Richards himself commenting. That explains his overuse of the "N" word. Big talker when your alone with your fat crack in front of a computer keyboard typing a bunch of crap. Hollywood Insider. Yeah right. You wish. More like dumb ass wanna be. Does your ignornant talk make you feel big? What a fool.

20. If the things Sam Simon said are true, it sounds like Richards may be bipolar. If he is I hope he is being treated for it. That being said, Ian, Richards IS getting some sweet checks from "Seinfeld." Regardless of any back end royalties, he is still getting residuals, and from a show like "Seinfeld" that's some serious money. And Harvey, I hope you are going to remove those ridiculous comments from Hollywood Insider.

21. The people who say they will never watch another Seinfeld episode again
are complete liars...the show IS funny, and the show isn't all
about Kramer, If they were watching it before, they will continue to
do so...
As long as you see it on TV...which I see it is on SEVERAL channels...
That means people are INDEED tuning in, or else if it were in a re-run
"rating slump" or this Michael Richards thing was even an issue, It would
have been pulled off atleast a couple channels...It's over, get over it.

24. Ok, #6, you make some good points. But we may never know for sure if Richards is racist - who among us hasn't resorted to saying stupid regretful things aimed at a person's weight, age, race, etc while angry? If you haven't, then you are much better than the rest of us. You all know what I am saying. Even if you mutter/think the words while driving down the street, you are no better. Richards just happened to say them out loud. One thing is for certain, we know the words were hurtful, and hopefully everyone involved will learn something from the events of that evening.

As for the residuals, ok, so the rest of the cast got shafted in that respect (also, I agree Jerry was the least funniest, although I believe he wrote a lot of the material). Anyway, there were over 30 episodes the last season... so, at $1mil per episode, even after taxes and agent fees, these people fared pretty well. That doesn't even consider what they received for previous years. My original point was that he can retire comfortably. Maybe not the Hampton's lifestyle Jerry has, but a damn comfortable one by most standards.

25. I guess I don't understand why Chris Rock can say what he wants about anyone \White, Mexican.... it dosen't matter who or what nationality he can say what he wants and NO ONE says one word about it. But let a white man go nuts and everyone is on him like stink on *&%#. It just isn't fair. It seems to me that black people are more prejudiced toward white people than the other way around. Of course Jesse Jackson wouldn't miss a chance to jump on that band wagon. He needs to look in his own back yard. He is the biggest hypocrite.
WHY CAN'T WE JUST BE FRIENDS!!!

29. The truth for me is, Micheal made seinfeld what it was.
If they would of took him off the show I would of quit watching.
Jerry was just too boring. I looked foreward to seeing Kramer.

30. THE TRUTH IS:

ANYONE WHO AGREES WITH WHAT RICHARDS DID IS CRAZY THEMSELVES!

Those who post "so-called" on behalf of what whites really want to say, DO NOT DO SO ON MY BEHALF. SPEAK FOR YOUR CRAZZZZZY SELVES!

RICHARDS, AND HIS SUPPORTERS ARE CRAZY INDEED, WALKING TIME-BOMBS.
