Martha Bitchslaps Rachael Over Barry

Martha Stewart threw rival talk-show diva Rachael Ray into her wicker-and-jute ring this morning, and, in her inimitably patrician way, gave her a verbal smackdown for daring to air her show with Barry Manilow at exactly the same time Her Martha-ness did.

At 10 am in New York, both Martha (on NBC) and Rachael's (on ABC) shows featured the ageless crooner Manilow as a musical guest, and Martha was none too pleased. "I've never actually met Rachael Ray," said Martha during her opening monologue, with a rather unmistakable chortle. "I think she's very fun...lively...uh...young woman," continued the domestic queen, racking her brain for adjectival possibilities. "She has Barry on her show today ... Now that's kinda weird."

Martha went on to claim that Rachael had originally scheduled the Manilow show for tomorrow, but for some reason moved up his appearance to today, and then wagged a stern verbal finger in Ray's face, saying, "I don't know ... I think it's not ... great for the artist." Stewart also pointed out that her show was a live broadcast, and show producers flashed the fact that the show was live several times on-air.

A rep for Rachael Ray tells TMZ, "Barry was a fantastic guest, and we wanted to lead our sweeps with the best show we had in the can, and that was Barry Manilow." A call to Martha's rep wasn't immediately returned.

17. rachel was CLEARLY trying to compete with Martha...I'm NOT a Martha fan, but think that this tactic is VERY SLIMY!

Rachel's irritating voice, and lack of culinary talent stun me. I've seen enough of her how-to's in making a parisian tart simply by taking premade jello pudding and slathering it with berries....NOT!

anyway, thought this was slimy--

18. Rachael Ray is nothing to be compared to someone who is so talented, original, and classy as Martha.

Todays show was a clear indication of RR's insecure and wicked side. It doesnt matter to me how many shows she has and how many billboards her mug is plastered on----I will always look at her and cringe with disgust. She's the Paris Hilton of FOOD NETWORK.

21. Alrighty...I love the fact that these two are both on TV. They have lots of good ideas. However who cares who has who on their shows. I saw both shows out here in California so Martha should just shut up about it. And for those saying Rachael is fat...grow up!

What isn the hell is this woman fronting at? She has no taste and is just as irritating as a pair of wool panties in August. Why are people attracted to her noxious, fake attempts at "down-home charm" ? All she wants is world domination et cetera but is too fluffy to admit it. Martha, for all of her um, er... complexities has never tried to trick us into being her friend. She's better than you and knows it and is going to let you know how to do it right. 25. If Barry Manilow started them fighting, I think that he would feel ashamed and never go on another talk show again. I mean, imagine how he would feel knowing that he started a fight between two women. He's there to please his fans, not cause a controversy over them.

27. hahaha I loved the comment about martha checking herself into a nursing home, good one! She is an old hag, and obviously has a reason to worry because her show sucks, shes old, and she needs to get off t.v. because no one wants to watch her stupid boring show anyways.
